A gyroscope in the conventional sense is an object mounted in a frame that rotates at a high speed around a symmetry axis of a revolving body. The gyroscope has stability and precessibility, and these characteristics are used to produce a rate gyro with a sensitive angular velocity and a position gyro with a sensitive angular deviation. Since optical, MEMS and other technologies have been introduced into the development of gyroscopes, it is now customary to call the gyroscopes that are capable of completing the gyroscope function.

There are various types of gyroscopes. According to the number of precession degrees of the gyro rotor main shaft, it can be divided into two-degree-of-freedom gyroscopes and single-degree-of-freedom gyroscopes. According to the support system, ball bearings can be divided into gyroscopes, liquid float, air float and maglev. The medium-precision gyroscope refers to a gyroscope with an accuracy of 5*10-4 o/h~10-1 o/h. Currently, the most promising gyroscope is an optical gyroscope, which belongs to the first generation optical gyroscope and fiber optic gyroscope. It belongs to the second generation optical gyro. In recent years, due to the greater potential of fiber optic gyroscopes in terms of accuracy, performance and size, it has become more and more popular among military countries. Low-precision gyroscopes refer to gyroscopes with an accuracy range of more than 10-1 o/h. The current development prospects are MEMS gyroscopes. Although the precision is low, the low price makes them have broad application prospects.
